Announcement for Second-Generation Grand Canyon Tour, July 10-13, 2013<\/strong><\/div>\n
Few places on earth inspire wonder like Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, and Zion.<\/div>\n
On July 10-13, 2017 is an opportunity to join a fully English-language tour to these<\/div>\n
places, led by geologist Bill Hoesch and assisted by Dr. John Kim. Expect to<\/div>\n
receive a well-rounded introduction to the geology of this spectacular region and<\/div>\n
how it relates to a straightforward reading of Scripture. The four-day tour begins<\/div>\n
and ends in Los Angeles and we will sleep in Williams, AZ the first night, Kanab,<\/div>\n
UT, on the second night, and St. George, UT on the final night. The following are<\/div>\n
a few highlights.<\/div>\n
Day One takes us from Los Angeles, across <\/span>the Mojave Desert, <\/span>the Colorado <\/span><\/div>\n
River, and up into the cooler elevations of the <\/span>Colorado Plateau to Williams where <\/span><\/div>\n
we will spend the night. The broad basins and tall ranges of the desert contrast<\/div>\n
with the step-like and greener terrain of the plateau-country, where we spend most<\/div>\n
of the trip. Expect expert instruction on the views out your window, as well get a<\/div>\n
preview of Grand Canyon and beyond.<\/div>\n
Grand Canyon will be the focus for Day Two. How was the canyon eroded? What<\/span><\/div>\n
can explain the rock layers with fossils? How old are the rocks in its bottom?<\/div>\n
Expect to be challenged by these thoughts as we consider together the impact of<\/div>\n
biblical history on the region. Passing through the Painted Desert <\/span>region and Page,<\/div>\n
AZ we cross the River again at Glen Canyon Dam<\/span>, where we will pause to<\/div>\n
consider the power of moving water before proceeding to Kanab<\/span>, Utah.<\/div>\n
On Day Three our primary destinations will be Bryce Canyon and Zion National <\/span><\/div>\n
Parks. What can explain landscapes so different from one another, the colored <\/span><\/div>\n
walls, and huge sandstone cliffs? The story behind this eroded landscape, the<\/div>\n
technical geology, and how you and I fit into so grand a picture will be our focus<\/div>\n
for this day.<\/div>\n
We return to Los Angeles via Virgin River Gorge and <\/span>Las Vegas. Because of a <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
generous donor, the all-expenses-paid trip is offered at a reduced price of $150 for<\/div>\n
students (high school to college) and $540 for adults. An after-dinner seminar<\/div>\n
is planned for each night in addition to media presentations on the bus. We hope to<\/div>\n
